River Holme Connections is a young and expanding charity with a long term aim of improving the River Holme Catchment for people, wildlife and the local economy. As River Steward you will engage riparian landowners and the skills and enthusiasm of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.  We are looking for a self – motivated individual who is familiar with the Catchment - Based Approach. Your work will be a combination of practical work days, public interface and helping land owners to take responsibility for their stretch of river. With the help of a strong team of staff and Trustees you will make a significant impact on local rivers through:

  • biodiversity enhancement
  • riverbank maintenance
  • invasive species monitoring and control
  • path, route and access improvements
  • expanding our successful volunteering programme
  • awareness raising
  • developing partnerships with landowners and stakeholders
  • a combination of land owner subscriptions and grant funding

We are therefore looking for someone with:

  • confidence in working with the general public, volunteers and landowners
  • the ability to plan and execute safe practical tasks in some physically demanding environments
  • a relevant degree level qualification or equivalent in an environmental field
  • minimum of 2 years working in conservation, ideally on river related projects
  • experience of working with a wide range of volunteers and stakeholders
  • a valid UK/EU driving licence
  • experience of working within the parameters of grant funded projects and/ or contract writing and management
  • experience in delivering partnership based collaborative projects
