Moors for the Future Moorland Walk and Talk

Jun 7 @ 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Free

The blanket bogs of the Peak District and South Pennines became some of the most degraded peatlands in the world as the industrial revolution saw pollutants from coal burning factories land directly upon the moors. Since 2003 the Moors for the Future Partnership has been working to reverse this environmental catastrophe. The area known as Black Hill above the river Holme has undergone a dramatic transformation from a bare peat landscape devoid of life to a living, breathing habitat once again. Join us on a walk from Holme village to the Black Hill trig point to see the difference that’s been achieved, what benefits this is bringing to communities downstream, learn about how the work took place and to see some of the plants and animals that now call this landscape home once more.

There is a steep section on this walk and the outgoing half is almost all uphill.  Meet by the playground at Meal Hill Road, Holme at 6pm for a good few hours of walking. Walking boots with decent ankle support are a must and please wear suitable clothing
