Volunteers and Growing Works join forces to Beat the Balsam

In the past couple of months, Himalayan Balsam has been removed from 8 different sites in the River Holme Catchment from Digley Reservoir at the top of the catchment down to the confluence with the River Colne at Lockwood.

The map shows in pink some of the areas that have been tackled and cleared and more is being done by individual volunteers

To make as many people as possible aware of the project, stickers were handed out to passers by and local residents.

“Slashers” were used by the volunteers, many of whom were making return visits but also several volunteer group leaders were invited for training.

Contact the river office via the website if you want to join in with a future bash!
